Lounge is not just for established "good players." It's for players who are willing to learn from mistakes and endure criticism in order to improve. When I joined lounge, I thought about quitting because I was garbage, but I just played the game more, listened to advice, learned the game, and I got better. He's already decent enough player anyway, about as decent as I was when I first joined. It's just that he is simply not willing to learn the game or listen to advice, which is his choice.

3 mushrooms is a win con on lap 2 if no shock, I don't see the issue
The issue IS the mushrooms wins should be awarded to people who frontrun(skill) and although item management is skill there are alsp too many overpowered item like bullet,shock and golden that people that are capable of getting 1st place are reversing to get when the worse players would need them far more (and I am not talking about getting mario karted becausw that is also a valid reason to have those items).
Items are only as powerful as their situational uses, if you put yourself into a situation where someone's bill is stronger than you want it to be, that's your lack of skill. Golden mushroom is broken in certain scenarios as is green shell. Bullet bill sucks in certain scenarios as does fake item box. There is no predisposed "good" item for every single situation, and if people are skill-lessly winning by spamming out their items, you just have to improve your strategy. That's how you separate yourself from the second rate players.
I agree with most of what you said and while it is true a golden is useless on tracks like DS rainbow road the other point you never fully proved I meant that items like the billet bill should only be for players who cant reverse drift or are newer to the game and help those players who have a set disadvantage from skill win races but players who can reverse drift going backwards to get these items gives them in MY OPINION a unfair advantage because if you can reverse drift you don't need a huge shortcut that saves a second because you are squeezing orange MTs often while people who cant only get MT on turns and will benefit from these shortcuts.
Skill difference shouldn't constitute a change of this magnitude. If someone who can Rd wants to go get a star for the shortcut in shroom ridge or shock dodge, I say it's fair to let them. If people who are less skilled have a problem with the competitive system of the game (that relies on skill) they can either get better or stop complaining. All players have equal opportunity to become as good as the other players, it just takes practice, and, for whatever competitive merit worldwide still provide, the format shouldn't be dumbed down to appeal to less skilled players. Besides, as touched on a bit before, worldwide distribution is extremely unserious, anybody who can Rd can win anymore, you just need the skill.
I feel like distance based items should be nerfed a bit when there's only like 2 players in the race. If both players know how to rd, then 2nd place gets items so overpowered that they can just outright catch up and win on lap 3, even if they aren't even like half a lap behind

1v1s are completely ridiculous with worldwide dist, but worldwide dist is bad in many other ways too, so it would probably need a complete rework, at least in my opinion.

maybe give everything a little bit more detail. the star shouldn't just be a yellow overlay, it should have sparkles and maybe color changing. When lakitu says which lap it is at the end of the lap, he first just disappears going up there (he should go all the way up), and the lap sign just looks a little lazy. maybe make it look like lakitu drew it. drifts should have sparks, maybe a noise? i dunno if this is already implemented, but maybe when you're in the small state and somebody runs you over, you get squished along with some spin-outs.

MODS. here's the thing if your playing online, if they have the MODS. on, it'll be their MOD special room, so people would be playing the same MODS in the same room. just think about it. MODS. Now, the mods or admins, maybe even a validator can approve of the MODS before it's posted, because they pretty much change the game. It'll have it's own page, just like everything else.

Polish is nice but not really necessary. Also, we already have custom characters, custom tracks, custom distribution, custom settings, what else do we need mods for? Mods are for games that don't have a lot of customization, MKPC is not one of those games. Maybe in the future we might get some other customizable features, but MKPC is not a file game, it is a web game, so any "mods" would just be another copy of MKPC in a different format. Look to MVL mods, the most popular mod pack is just a copy of the game engine with all of the changes, no necessary install required, because it is a browser game. I don't see why the MKPC team wouldn't allow people to make these domains and modifications, in fact, they encourage people to edit the games code and add stuff to see if it works in the game, but it's not like MKPC is an actual downloadable game with downloadable mods in the same respects that other games are.

Faltering to the will of the people in regards to balancing will defeat the purpose of having competitive modes in the first place. If you just learn Rd, you'll have a lot more fun with the game, but instead people want to complain about the fundamentals of the game instead of getting better. Just put in the extra 2 days to practice your skills, it's literally no different than learning wheelies in MkWii, it's just the tech of the game, no different from any other tech in any other game. Forcing people to go against people who Rd brings out the people who actually want to interact with the game in a helpful way while setting aside all of the people who don't really care, and at a point of not caring, you shouldn't really expect to win.

Okay. There seriously needs to be some kind of radar that shows you when things are coming at you, like red shells or bullet bills, or stuff like that. It makes it so difficult when you're absolutely cruising and all the sudden, since the end of the screen is literally right behind you, a Bullet Bill just smacks you in the behind right before you win the race. Now you're in fifth. It drives me insane, especially when it's in a cup I've never beaten in my year playing. It would be so much better if, like MK8, a little thing pops up on your screen with the Bullet Bill icon when there's one coming up.

I guess yeah I could look at the minimap, but I get pretty locked in when I play and by the time I check it would be too late. Giving an instant warning would be a lot better because then you have a second to prepare.
Requires less skill to use radar, the minimap approach is much more rewarding.
