Hey there, a new major update has been released on Mario Kart PC!
This update was probably THE most requested update of all time. Suggested on Discord quite some time ago, the request quickly received lots of upvotes and got attention from most players. This was not an easy update to implement, but it's finally here!

The Track Builder now offers the ability to place Rails in your tracks, just like the ones in Mario Kart World!

Main Feature

• What are Rails and how do they work?
First introduced in Mario Kart World as a brand new mechanic, rails are areas where karts follow a predefined path while being able to trick to gain speed. But how does it work in the track editor?
A new "Rails" category can be found in the scrolldown menu of the Track Editor. They are defined similarly to CPU routes: You simply place nodes and your rail path will be created!

When the rails are ready, all you need to do next is test them! This addition alone should extend a lot the possibilities! Not only to fully recreate Mario Kart World tracks with the implementation of rails, but also to create new strategies and techniques that could never be done before this update!
A good example of this is in the Mario Kart World version of DS Airship Fortress where rails are placed on the walls on the edges of the road and it is possible to take sharper turns by jumping from a rail to another!

• Advanced options
Like every other collision, when right clicking on a rail, a small menu will appear which includes 4 different options:

     ◦ Rail height:
The "Rail height" option defines the minimum altitude required for the player to start riding a rail. By default, the minimum altitude is set to 0 so any rail can be accessed no matter a player's height.

For example, here I set a height of 1 to recreate overhead rails of DK spaceport:

Note that to make the rails accessible from the beginning, I also had to put an elevator right before the rails:

     ◦ Target height:
The "Target height" option works the same way as elevators. When a player rides the rail, their altitude will change depending on the set height. By default, the rail height doesn't target any height.

For instance, here I set a rail height of 0 and a target height of 1

⚠️ Note: It is impossible for "Rail Height" option's set value to be superior than the value set for the "Target Height" option. Anyone who tries doing so will receive an error message saying "Target height cannot be lower that rail height. Check Help section for details."



• Rails development
The development of this feature was quite interesting as there were lots of adjustments between the 1st version and the actual release. We wanted to make the feature as polished as possible, and had to fix many little details for that, details that can make a difference between a frustrating and a fun experience. A few examples:
    ◦ Adjust 🏎️ rail speed and turbo speed to make it well balanced with reverse drift
    ◦ Make https://i.postimg.cc/Gm93KG6r/carapace.png Green and https://i.postimg.cc/W4CdgX4Q/carapacerouge.png Red shells follow the rails
    ◦ Ability to 💨 dodge Shells by doing tricks
    ◦ Ability to ✇ control your kart when doing tricks
    ◦ Adjust 📐 max angle to enter a rail
    ◦ Adjust 🕔 air time to make tricks feel smooth
    ◦ Fall off the rail https://mkpc.malahieude.net/images/map_icons/banane.png when getting hit by an item

We iterated a lot with @Wargor and also had a few members test the feature to get extra feedbacks (Thanks to @Fways, @Mudky and @Theodore12 super)

• Many more possibilities!
In addition to recreating MKWorld-like tracks, this update opens the door to many concepts and challenges with a bit of imagination! Obstacles to avoid on the rail, walls to dodge, platformers, ultra shortcuts... Let your creativity speak!

To give an idea of some possible concept, @Wargor created a special track designed around rails: Rolling Sky 2!
The sequel of Rolling Sky 1 but with rails only! It’s quite challenging, but it’s the perfect way to practice! Here's a quick preview:

Bug Fixes
This update also includes some small fixes:
     ◦ Fixed the https://i.postimg.cc/d1cqJX3t/carapacebleue.png Blue Shell and https://i.postimg.cc/XYNn0xZq/eclair.png <br />
Lightning cooldowns that were incorrectly set to 20s instead of 30s
     ◦ Fixed an issue where the Monty Mole and fire bar decors could still deal damage when inactive
     ◦ Fixed an issue where the Bullet Bill, snow ball and pinball ball decors could still deal damage when vanishing
     ◦ Fixed various translation errors

There it is! This update should extend quite significantly what you can do with the track builder. Maybe you'll even find some other possibilities I didn't think of! Be creative ;)

Salut à tous, une nouvelle mise à jour majeure vient d’arriver sur Mario Kart PC !
Et pas n’importe laquelle : probablement LA mise à jour la plus demandée de tous les temps. Proposée il y a un bon moment sur Discord, l’idée a très vite reçu énormément de votes positifs et attiré l’attention de toute la communauté. Ce n’était pas facile à développer, mais ça y est, c’est enfin là !

Le Éditeur de circuits permet désormais de placer des Rails dans vos pistes, exactement comme dans Mario Kart World !

Fonctionnalité Principale

• Les Rails, c’est quoi et comment ça marche ?
Apparus pour la première fois dans Mario Kart World, les rails sont une toute nouvelle mécanique : ce sont des zones où les karts suivent un chemin prédéfini tout en pouvant faire des figures pour gagner de la vitesse. Mais comment ça marche dans l’éditeur de circuits ?
Un nouvel onglet « Rails » a été ajouté dans le menu déroulant. Leur fonctionnement est similaire aux trajets ordis : vous placez simplement des points et le chemin du rail se créer automatiquement !

Une fois vos rails en place, il ne vous reste plus qu’à les tester ! Cette nouveauté ouvre énormément de possibilités ! Non seulement pour recréer fidèlement les circuits de Mario Kart World, mais aussi pour inventer de toutes nouvelles stratégies et techniques impossibles jusqu’ici.
Un bon exemple est la version Mario Kart World de DS Bateau Volant, où les rails placés sur les murs permettent de couper les virages en sautant d’un rail à l’autre !

• Options avancées
Comme pour toutes les collisions, un clic droit sur un rail ouvre un petit menu avec 4 options :

◦ Hauteur rail :
Définit l’altitude minimale requise pour monter sur un rail. Par défaut, elle est à 0, ce qui rend le rail accessible quelle que soit la hauteur du joueur.

Exemple : ici j’ai mis une hauteur de 1 pour recréer les rails en hauteur de Spatioport DK :

Notez qu’il a aussi fallu ajouter un élévateur juste avant les rails pour permettre d’y accéder dès le départ :

◦ Hauteur cible :
Fonctionne comme les ascenseurs. Lorsqu’un joueur monte sur le rail, son altitude change pour atteindre la valeur fixée. Par défaut, aucun objectif de hauteur n’est défini.

Exemple : ici j’ai mis une hauteur de rail à 0 et une hauteur cible à 1 :

⚠️ Note : il est impossible de définir une « hauteur de rail » plus grande que la « hauteur cible ». Si vous essayez, un message d’erreur s’affichera : « La hauteur cible ne peut pas être inférieure à la hauteur du rail. Voir la section Aide pour plus de détails. »

• Le développement des Rails
Le développement de cette fonctionnalité a demandé pas mal d’ajustements entre la première version et la sortie finale. On voulait rendre l’expérience la plus fluide possible, et ça passait par plein de petits réglages et corrections qui font toute la différence entre une mécanique frustrante et une mécanique fun. Quelques exemples :
◦ Ajustement de la vitesse des rails et du turbo pour équilibrer avec le drift inversé
◦ Les https://i.postimg.cc/Gm93KG6r/carapace.png Carapaces Vertes et https://i.postimg.cc/W4CdgX4Q/carapacerouge.png Carapaces Rouges suivent désormais les rails
◦ Possibilité d’💨 esquiver des carapaces en faisant des figures
◦ Possibilité de ✇ contrôler son kart pendant une figure
◦ Ajustement de l’📐 angle max d’entrée sur un rail
◦ Ajustement du 🕔 temps en l’air pour rendre les figures plus fluides
◦ Chute hors du rail https://mkpc.malahieude.net/images/map_icons/banane.png après s'être pris un objet

On a pas mal itéré avec @Wargor et fait tester la mécanique à quelques membres pour récolter des retours supplémentaires (merci à @Fways, @Mudky et @Theodore12 super)

• Nombreuses possibilities en perspective !
En plus de recréer des circuits à la MKWorld, cette mise à jour ouvre la voie à de nombreux concepts et défis avec un peu d'imagination ! Obstacles à éviter sur le rail, murs à esquiver, platformers, ultra shortcuts... Laissez parler votre créativité !

Pour donner une idée de concept possible, @Wargor a créé un circuit spécial entièrement pensé autour des rails : Rolling Sky 2 !  
La suite de Rolling Sky 1, mais cette fois uniquement avec des rails ! Le circuit est assez corsé, mais c’est l’occasion idéale de découvrir les rails en action ! Voici un petit aperçu :

Corrections de Bugs
La mise à jour inclut aussi quelques correctifs :
◦ Correction d’un bug où les décors Topi Taupes et barres de feu pouvaient infliger des dégâts même inactifs
◦ Correction d’un bug où les décors Bill Balles, boules de neige et boules de flipper pouvaient infliger des dégâts en disparaissant
◦ Correction des délais de recharge de la https://i.postimg.cc/d1cqJX3t/carapacebleue.png carapace bleue et de l’https://i.postimg.cc/XYNn0xZq/eclair.png éclair, qui étaient fixés à 20s au lieu de 30s
◦ Correction de plusieurs erreurs de traduction
