I know I'm a little late to the party, but I just want to put it out there.
So I woke up this morning, did some of my schoolwork, opened YouTube, and the very first thing I see is this Direct.
Holy cow, the rumors were true. I am 100% going to get 3D All Stars, kinda sad Galaxy 2 isn't there, but I can forgive that. The main reason I wanna get 3D All Stars is for Sunshine, as I have never played it.
I'm debating on getting 3D World, but the Bowser's Fury might pull me to get it.
Who knew that Mario Kart 9 would be in the real world. Sadly, I'm probably not going to buy it.
Oh yeah, and Super Mario Kart Mario and DK Jr. is coming to MK Tour. Very happy about that.
All in all, I am super happy about this and what a great way to celebrate Mario's 35th Anniversary.

The reason why I didn't mention them is because I don't really care for them. They look alright, but I probably won't buy and/or play them.

I'm a little upset that Galaxy 2 isn't in the collection, but I'm more upset 3D Land isn't in there.
Oh well, 3D Land was at least acknowledged by Nintendo. Seriously, why did they exclude Land 2 and Galaxy 2?
This is probably just me, but I'm hoping for the 64DS Minigames to be added to 3D All-Stars. Those are all really fun.
Picture Poker is the best, there's no arguing about that. Heck, I'd say Picture Poker is better than the entirety of Mario Kart Tour. It's more fun, it's more engaging, and it's simpler, which is a good thing.
Bowser's Fury looks cool.
Super Mario 35 looks chaotic.
Mario Kart: Home Circuit looks...okay. People could make incredible stuff with that, but...i don't know. It just looks okay.

I think the reason why they didn't put in 3D Land or Galaxy 2 is for two reasons.
1. Changing a handheld game to a console game is kinda odd. Sure, the Switch is a hybrid console, but still I can see why.
2. 4 or 5 games on one cartridge is alot of work. If they did do it, there is no way Nintendo would still charge it for 60 bucks.
And yes, SM64 DS minigames would be a nice touch.

True, but I mean, they could have at least acknowledged Galaxy 2 in the end part where they list the mainline games in the series.
Also, Nintendo put 5 games in the original All-Stars. (Super Mario 1, 2, 3, World, and Lost Levels)
Also also, you've started school already? Huh. I don't start 'till next Tuesday.)

Yeah, the reason for that is, I'm homeschooled, my work can be done fairly quickly, and I started three weeks ago. That's how I can be online around 1-2 PM EST.

Maybe a little late for this bump but might as well.
-Halo: The Master Chief Collection has 6 technically more impressive games (all with graphical upgrades) for $40.
-Both the Crash N-Sane trilogy and the Spyro Reignited trilogy are $40 each which are all ground-up remakes.
Nintendo could maybe slide by charging this like $30 and maybe having this as a release with a larger more anticipated game like what with Sega did with Sonic Mania/Forces (gesture towards the past while looking towards a bright future), but $60 is a bit much for what's essentially 3 ports of semi-retro games that (aside from Sunshine) are still available for decently cheap on Wii/Wii U. It's not a matter of how much work needs to be put in (seeing as Super Mario 64 is in 4:3 and 30 fps when fangames have put it at 16:9 and 60 fps), it's a matter of branding.
What makes less sense is that this is marketed as the star attraction for Mario this year. Granted, Super Mario's 25th anniversary game was just as if not more half-assed (a port of Super Mario All-Stars with some extra goodies), but Galaxy 2 had come out 6 months prior which on its own could have acted as a 25th anniversary game, and it wasn't marketed as the hot new system seller 3D All-Stars is. Now, the last original Mario game that came out was Odyssey almost 3 years ago, so seeing what is for the most part a rom and 2 iso's be marketed as the huge release baffles me.
What ultimately breaks the camel's back here in my opinion that the game is a) in a limited physical release, so it's mostly digital and b) the digital release is only available for 6 months, and after that is gone forever. The first one is mostly personal preference (I grew up in an age where digital downloads for new games weren't really a thing, and I'd say about 95% of all the media I personally own are still on physical media), so maybe others aren't super bothered by it. The second one however is inexcusable. I get that consoles become unprofitable to maintain and thus games stop being made and printed for them (I mean you aren't going to see any game for a console that's older than 15 years old in your local Gamestop), but the Switch is nowhere close to that point. In just 3 years, the Switch sold 60 million units, a number I'm sure only the DS and the PS2 could claim to have even matched. I'd expect to see the Switch to be produced at least for the next 7-8 years, so having a limited release game at this stage seems incredibly scummy. In addition, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the big new Mario game for at least the next 3 years because I'd imagine they'll still be rereleasing Wii U games by the time the system finally bites the dust (maybe they'll start rereleasing Gamecube and Wii games once the Wii U well runs dry? lol).
I personally have quick and easy access to all 3 in the form of my own copy of Super Mario 64 DS, a friend's copy of Super Mario Sunshine, and my own copy of Super Mario Galaxy, so I don't have much incentive to buy it. Maybe others aren't as fortunate as I (it's probably the cheapest way to buy Sunshine for now if nothing else), but that's the position I'm in.
Might as well give my thoughts on the rest of what was offered in the Mario 35 direct.
-Super Mario Bros. 35 is a neat little idea, basically Tetris 99 in Super Mario Bros form. I don't know why it's only playable for like 6 months but it is I guess.
-The Super Mario Bros. Game and Watch is a little overpriced and gimmicky but nothing horrible, if it was a little cheaper I would definitely pick it up.
-Super Mario 3D World+ is another Wii U port.
-Mario Kart Live is OK, I would have gone crazy for this had it released in 2012 but it's been over 6 years since we've received a brand new Mario Kart and 15 since we've received a kart of significant quality. Plus $100 is a little steep for what amounts to a kind-of-but-not-really Mario Kart Maker.
-The new merch is neat, I already have a fair amount so I don't see much need to get more but if you don't have I'd imagine it could be a good starting point.
-The Super Mario All-Stars release is pretty inoffensive, I don't know why they didn't include the version with Super Mario World (the 25th anniversary release also didn't use that version) but whatever I guess, it's free with Online.
Overall, it's a bit disappointing overall, it's just too little for what they're advertising as this big thing. Everything is either hampered some baffling decisions by Nintendo or simply coming at the wrong time.
It's still better than whatever Game Freak is going to shart out come 2021 (any one of Diamond and Pearl remakes, Let's Go Johto, or Ultra Sword/Ultra Shield).
Anyways happy 35th to Super Mario Bros.

I feel like they make sense as being cheaper than the Mario collection. All 3 games in each trilogy run on the same engine, which makes things slightly easier. They all use the same physics, reuse certain assets from the other games, and generally play almost exactly the same between all 3 in the trilogy. They just only allow Crash/Spyro to use certain moves in each game. All 3 games in 3D All-Stars run on different engines, with completely different movesets for Mario, and completely different text boxes, enemies, and physics.

3D all stars version SM64 patched so long gay bowser AND the BLJ
On 2020-09-14 at 19:15:09
I really don't care if they patched the BLJ. Gay Bowser hurts a little bit more. Maybe we can have an ACTUAL speedrun of the game without glitches.
Update on my list at the beginning of the topic:
I am going to get 3D World + Bowser's Furry mostly because my family loved playing the original on the Wii U. It also was the first Mario game I owned (not the first I played). My dad is not a gamer, but he's really excited for the new content. I'm glad I made the right call to not rebuy the game on Wii U after I sold 3D World.

I also am kinda annoyed that speedrunners use skips to win and nothing else. man, Nintendo really screwed up while making the shindou patch cart in japan, then giving it an american relase then removing TWO iconic features, FOR MARIO'S 35th ANIVERSARY!

Man, people were loving 3D All Stars when it was first revealed, now people are acting like it's the next Sonic '06. I guess that's the internet for ya. For crying out loud people, we are getting three of the most popular Mario games ever on a HYBRID console and people still aren't satisfied.
