It's not tht the movie is inaccurate, it's just an alternate timeline. Not everything is gonna transfer over to this one, and by that I mean literally everything. It's in it's own separate dimension, not inaccurate.

In any case, this was an origin movie. Of course the newer characters were sidelined. Release wise, everything makes perfect sense:

There are some bigger inconsistencies, namely Mario's family, DK Jr getting erased from existence, the pacing is really quick sadly, but otherwise it was great. Not sure how they're planning on explaining Daisy based on Peach's "backstory", but eh, they've got plenty of time to figure that one out. Can't recall seeing a single Lakitu either, hope they fix that too.

Here's a little fun fact: The part where "Take on Me" plays was actually supposed to have a different (and far better) song which is a medley of various songs from the DK series. It's available in the official soundtrack under the title "Drivin' Me Bananas."
Makes me wonder if the version we have currently is just the theatrical cut. If it is, then boy am I expecting the unedited cut be available on the DVD release.

Sadly, press X to doubt. As good as the DKC Gangplank Mashup is, the use of Gangplank Galleon without a single Kritter is super disrespectful imo.

Tbh, when I rethink about it, it's really a great film. The promo for their plumber agency at the beginning made me cringe so hard and feel second hand embarassment, so I was scared for the rest of the movie. Turns out it had everything I was craving for : emotion for the strong bond between the two brothers, action for the Rainbow Road scene or for the part where they're running with power-ups, humor when Mario first tries Peach's complicated parkour... I hated Lumalee lol, he was well written and funny but the fact he kept being an asshole just sent me to the moon lmfao. Also Spike literally sucked. Bro I understood, they wanted to do a Wario/Waluigi like character, and while he was slightly, but very slightly plot relevant, he was still a jerk, and I hated him. Mario's family is also kind of dumb, even if they don't mean any harm deep down. Peach being badass is something, Toad being so courageous and devoted is something, Luigi standing up is something, Bowser being romantic is something, everything goes and it's a pleasure. My dad literally said it was really great, and that it was way better than any of the franchise promoting movies he's ever seen before, we laughed together about it later and it was a fun time lol. As a die hard stan of Mario, the references were tasty, while they didn't need to be understood to comprehend the story.

being a mario fan my entire life, I absolutely loved the entire movie. I loved all the references in the music and backgrounds. I enjoyed everything from the funny moments to the serious ones. Bowser's song is funny, sad, and beautiful. I was smiling through every single scene. I'm not sure if you saw this, but when mario was in his room playing Kid Icarus, there was a star fox ship hanging above the TV. Another easter egg is in punch out pizza where there are pictures of glass joe and duck hunt. Even the toads wearing mario maker hats is awesome. (I put 3 pictures of the easter eggs below if you want to see them.)There is no way nintendo and illumination dont make a sequel within the next few years. Several characters where left out, but i can understand why. Its the origin story of how they become the mario brothers. Overall though.... most certainly the best movie I've ever seen

It's possible Jr. hasn't been born yet. The Koopalings do exist, Bowser was using Ludwig's Piano. Maybe they're in magic school with Kamela or something to train them for combat.
