Fixing Mario Kart DS Retro Courses
On 2022-12-24 at 14:02:03
SNES Rainbow Road (because it's a rule that this course must appear in every single Mario Kart game)
But MKDS has the Fake Item Box.
That was a joke. I don't think SNES Rainbow Road should be in every single game and I'm tired of it always being remade when almost every other Rainbow Road (except Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road) is better.
So which one should we REALLY use?
All of them, but only one per game.
DS could have used SNES Rainbow Road
Wii could have used N64 Rainbow Road
7 could have used GBA Rainbow Road
8 could have used GCN Rainbow Road
DS Rainbow Road could have been brought back as one of the original 16 DLC courses
And the BCP could've used Wii Rainbow Road
The BCP is already gonna use Wii Rainbow Road....
And I'm glad 64 & GBA Rainbow aren't in Wii or 7, they'd suck.
And butcher GCN for 8, but that's a totally different argument.
Wii Rainbow Road hasn't been confirmed by Nintendo yet, but I think it should return as it would be a great idea for Nintendo to finish off the DLC with the Best Rainbow Road EVER, in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure that it'll be added to Tour, it's a really easy one to add, minus the cannon, & we've already got 3DS which is much wilder, so fingers crossed.
It might not be added to Tour, because Shroom Ridge isn't. It probably will get in at some point because it's a fan favourite. Also there's a cannon in DK Mountain so they could just change the textures.
I meant the cannon effects. And also I've heard that the slanted road gravity(eg. Wario's Pirate Ship on Wario Shipyard)can't just be placed whenever like standard road, & that's basically what the entire course is, including the exit to the cannon.
Oh OK
I know you are new in forum but reaction exist

FieryToad has already told him 2 minutes ago but okay
Anyways I feel like we don't need to fix the retro selection of MKDS, it's maybe not the best at all but it's an error that Nintendo saw and took in account and improved in the later games.

We really don't need to fix any retro course selection, at least not as much as I did. I would have been satisfied if they had just used GBA Riverside Park instead of GBA Peach Circuit and changed the Lightning Cup as shown in this video (at 5:23):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEXviksbRIs
I think Mario Kart Wii's retro course selection is much worse. At least with DS its understandable because it was Nintendo's first time choosing retro courses, the DS hardware was inferior to the Gamecube, and there weren't as many courses to choose from as two of the four games had all flat courses. But Mario Kart Wii's selection? Inexcusable.

I think they were trying use up the can't-be-unflattened GBA courses until they had some proper hardware to remake them like we see now, & in MK Wii's defense, only 3/5 of the games up until that point had actual 3D usable tracks. It might be why 7 has 4 DS, 4 Wii, 3 N64 & 1 GBA.

I don't think they were because Mario Kart Wii didn't unflatten the GBA courses and neither did Mario Kart 7. Also, any course in that game can be unflattened as shown with GBA Mario Circuit in Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart Wii still had a better selection of courses to choose from than DS and only had 4 flat courses where DS had 8, and the Wii hardware was much better hardware than the DS and even the Gamecube. They could have easily brought back DS Waluigi Pinball (though I can see why they didn't as they already brought back GCN Waluigi Stadium), Tick-Tock Clock, or Airship Fortress, yet they chose Yoshi Falls and Desert Hills. They did okay with the GCN course selection though they could have swapped Mario Circuit and Waluigi Stadium since the latter is harder and the former shouldn't be in the Leaf cup. The N64 selection was an improvement over DS's N64 selection but the SNES and GBA selections were terrible. Mario Circuit 3 in the Lightning Cup? Another GBA Bowser Castle?
Also, while 7 did have a much better course selection, I think they should have brought back 2 GBA courses and only 1 SNES course since Super Circuit had more unique tracks than Super Mario Kart. Other than the excellent DS and Wii courses they brought back and the two GCN courses, they did a bad job choosing SNES, N64 (Kalimari Desert shouldn't have been in the Leaf Cup), and GBA courses.

I very much understand your point. Maybe you could rearrange the MKWII tracks, it sounds like a good idea!

For the first part, I was saying they've only ever used GBA tracks that CAN'T ever be anything but flat because crappy hardware, which still applies to Wii & 3DS. Not WiiU, which is why they aren't flat anymore.
I don't think the retros historically are put in cups based on difficulty, kinda just placed wherever. I agree that they should do something about that, now that we have more usable 3D(ish) games.

If you look at the custom courses for Mario Kart DS and Wii, they could have unflattened the GBA courses and revamped them like in Mario Kart 8.
The retros aren't put in cups based on difficulty anymore but they used to and they should, but Nintendo will probably stop placing cups based on difficulty since everything is already unlocked by default now. I miss the days when the games only had 8 characters and maybe some unlockable characters in later games and when some of the cups were locked by default.

Base 8 had locked cups. The Switch version is the only one that doesn't. Probably just a "DELUXE" feature. I guess we'll find out next game.

The Rainbow Road pattern only started in Mario Kart 7, not Mario Kart DS (If you don't include Mario Kart Super Circuit). My bad for making you sad.

The reason that nintendo chose the easiest courses to make is because the DS was not as powerful as future consoles and they wanted to get the game out on time.

In that case, they should have waited until Wii to start bringing back retro courses and just add a fifth cup to the Nitro GP. That would give the DS 20 courses which is the same amount as Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart Super Circuit (excluding the Extra courses) and since there aren't as many courses to work on, they could have spent extra time making courses like Figure-8 Circuit, Yoshi Falls, and Desert Hills better than they were.
Or they could have done like Super Circuit and have an extra grand prix but with the 16 Mario Kart 64 courses.

Here's My Take on The MKDS Retro Course Cups. Enjoy.
Shell Cup:
SNES Mario Circuit 1
GBA Shy Guy Beach
N64 Kalimari Desert
GCN Luigi Circuit
Banana Cup:
SNES Bowser's Castle 1
N64 Mario Raceway
GCN DK Mountain
GBA Lakeside Park
Leaf Cup:
GBA Luigi Circuit
SNES Donut Plains 2
GCN Yoshi Circuit
N64 DK's Jungle Parkway
Special Cup: (NOTE: I Have To Do The Order Backwards So That I Ends With SNES Rainbow Road)
GCN Wario Colosseum
GBA Snow Land
N64 Bowser's Castle
SNES Rainbow Road
When It Came To The N64 Track In The Shell Cup, I Was Really Confused.
Koopa Troopa Beach/Koopa Beach Would Make 2 Courses In The Shell Cup Beach Courses,
Luigi Raceway Would Put 2 Luigi Courses In The Shell Cup Next To Each Other....
...And Toad's Turnpike (My Hated Track From MK64) Would Be Too Much Difficult In Mirror Mode With Oncoming Traffic.
So Then I Finally Ended The Confusion With Kalimari Desert.

I think I just had a stroke reading your message. Why Do You Talk Like This? I have a stroke everytime I try to read your message, make sure you actually make sense.
I Just Love Talking Like That.
Okay that aside, I don’t understand what you mean.
