this is the same for any mario kart game and is purely based on steering. however, if this is more prominent than usual, i will look into fixing it. thanks for letting everyone know about this

This sounds like a bug... And this should be fixed. But for me, I never had this problem, the red shells never hitted me when I was holding an item.

Yup, if it does hit you on the side, what would be the point of having items such as bananas or shells to protect you, if the AI Red shells will just avoid them.
