Today is the end of an era. It isn't quite the final nail in the coffin for the DS and Wii line of systems, but it's not that far off and it still sure feels like it. These were the first Nintendo systems with an online shop genuinely worth checking out, and also the first with significant DLC which are now (legally) lost to the void. In addition, with the discontinuation of the Eshop, Nintendo drops support for Virtual Console after over 16 years, with the only way remaining of legally accessing Nintendo's retro games on their current consoles is through a subscription-based service.
Online play is still supported but I fully anticipate that to be dropped in a year or two. Nintendo doesn't make any money off of the 3DS and Wii U servers, and I'd imagine the player counts are abysmally low. It's only a matter of time at this point.

It is finished. It's interesting to note that it coincides with the next Direct today on Tears of the Kingdom.
In any case, the last major 3DS game came out in 2017. Alot of the people here are kinda young(myaelf included), so I can understand being upset about this, it being their first console death and everything.
