If you want to put a wall, then that overlay represents where the wall is gonna be basically. You can turn it black
it won't change anything, just an aesthetic question. Also, you can change the shape of the overlay by clicking on the button that's next to the square shape, that is basically the polygonal version of a tool, which allows you to give it whatever shape you want instead of being limited.
