MKDD's models have way more polygons than MKWii models, and there is WAYYY more possibilities in MKWii than in MKDD, like the number of drivers, karts, modes, tracks, cups, battle arenas, and more, that's why 3D models are meh compared to MP8, MP9 or SMG

I have a Wii U, but since the Nintendo eShop of the Wii U/3DS family is closed, I can’t download any DLC (I’m kinda sad, because Lucas, Mewtwo and Bayonetta are good characters in Smash 4)
But I agree with you, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe without DLC is better than Mario Kart 8 without DLC, because for some reasons, Nintendo added Super Bell/Triforce/Animal Crossing/Egg Cups, Cat Peach, Tanuki Mario, Animal Crossing characters, Link and Inklings for free in MK8DLX, but in 2017, the Wii U’s eShop was still working.
