When drifting, you dont have to always make it to the yellow sparks; you can use the blue sparks too.
This can make for some small; yet helpful shortcuts.
2. Know when and how to use items.
Mushroom: Never use to get ahead. Use for shortcuts.
Shell:No frontshots. Backspam it. Use in front only in tight courses like DK Pass, Waluigi PInball etc.
Red Shell. We dont nees rules.
Mega Mushroom. Use for shorcuts or stomping others in tight courses.
Lightning. No rules.
Star. Use in tigt courses or shotcuts.
Fake Item Box: Dragging only or near real item boxes to fool others.

I disagree with the stuff about not needing rules for items. Most of the time, especially in 1st, you don't want to use them aggressively. Always use them as defence. Besides, Lightning has one rule - always target shock 1st place.
When in 1st, you always want a banana behind you, as it can half the hitstun given out by bob-ombs or blue shells.
Also you're not going very in-depth about drifting. There's a lot more to it than just using the blue boosts, as orange ones come in useful on some tracks (e.g. Waluigi Pinball)

I agree with InfiNate, there is a lot more to drifting. You don't always want blue drift and sometimes you don't want to drift at all to set yourself up for the upcoming turn.
Also, times in MKPC are quite frantic. Red shells are quite common, so don't waste defensive items.
Don't have a lead until the last lap, otherwise having the lead would be pointless. Just use your items well, and if you get blue shelled 5 times than it wouldn't matter how good u race.
But im not the best player so don't listen to my advice too seriously.

Yeah, When You Are Doing Jumps Press The trick Button and it will give you a little speed boost
