Nobody's brought it up on the MKPC forums yet so I'm taking the honor to do so myself. Some things, like MK7's CTGP-7 will have zero effect since those games now have custom servers but some other games like AC: New Leaf & Kid Icarus on the 3DS may be very badly effected!

They already shut down the ability to upload corses courses on Mario maker, now you won’t be able to play them either. It’s kinda sad honestly since the Wii U is one of my favourite Nintendo consoles.

custom homebrew applications like the one you mentioned will be fine; they operate on separate non-nintendo servers.

I grew up playing both the WiiU and the 2DS. Ik there not that nostalgic for some people but to me they are, so it's sad to see the online service get cut off. Havent played either in years, so now that I have a chance im gonna play a lot of mk8 and other online stuff while I can.

that one mario golf 3DS game was the only non shit/actually good sports game of the "bland mario era" and the online there was pretty fun so thats just a lil sad
edit: took a look at my 3ds and besides mario kart 7 diddy kong racing ds and yoshis island ds street pass mii plaza was infact my most played 3ds game i wonder how nintendo will deal with that also
