Planning for episode 1 will begin on June 1st, so hopefully we'll get a lot of ideas by then. Writing the season itself will probably start on June 30th. I'll sprinkle in some cast reveals along the way to the premiere too.

ATTENTION CAMPERS!
The final slot for fan-submitted characters has been filled! They will get a DM from me shortly. In the meantime, I thought I'd share, some season concepts that didn't quite make it.
The Original Toad-al Drama Crossover
While Toad-al Drama Crossover did happen, it wasn't originally supposed to utilize the pair format. Instead, Mario and Sonic would take turns picking characters from both universes to be their teammates. But since I kept changing my mind on what the teams would be, I split them into teams of 2 instead. Since I created a cast before the pair-sorting criteria, Yoshi and Knuckles as The Others were just a filler pair who I regret eliminating so early.
Toad-al Drama Fury
This would've been a Pahkitew type of season where 14 characters would've been stranded on Lake Lapcat while Fury Bowser occasionally appeared to help in challenges and stuff. Think of it as a precursor to Toad-al Drama Inferno.
Toad-al Drama Superstars
This season would've had 16 players from the first 4 seasons, later 5 once I came up with Inferno, and would've featured every finalist, even Sticks. The original format had mixed generation teams that would later switch to Heroes vs. Villains. But I eventually decided I would bring back the pair format with a few changes to prevent another Birdo situation. I had a cast, pairs, a boot order, everything, but once I cancelled Inferno, I took a break and eventually scrapped it. I might revive the concept for season 10 if the series makes it that far. If you wanna know what the cast would've been, I'll be happy to answer.
Toad-al Drama Wonder
This was the most recent of my ideas. I didn't have a cast by the time I scrapped the idea, but I did have the same 12 character tropes I'm using for Reload, and 3 fan-submitted slots. It would've taken place after Superstars in the Flower Kingdom, and it would've been really weird. Like Superstars, this was cut when Inferno was cancelled, and I decided to try and take the series in a new direction.
Toad-al Drama Galaxy
This idea was back in the early days of Toad-al Drama, and would've had 9 pairs of loved ones travel across the cosmos. (I don't know how those two concepts connect.) There would've been 6 newbie-newbie pairs, as well as 3 returnee-newbie pairs. I don't know when or why I cut this one, but I don't plan on using it.

I now have 10/15 campers, meaning the cast is 2/3 complete.

The cast is 1/3 complete! I have two more characters to tease. One was submitted by another member, (leaving just one more fan-submitted slot) and the other was made by me. And I just got an INSANEly cool applicant, so get your characters in before they take the final slot.

It has to be a Mario species.

So I just got advertised on the MKPC Nightly News. Nice. I've decided to tease the first 3 campers. One was submitted by another MKPC member, while the other 2 are made by me.



Keep the fan characters coming! Since I don't know when I'll be done putting the cast together, I might as well open up applications for co-writers. I'll have brainstorming sections in a Google Doc open to everyone, so don't worry about listing specific skills. I trust you to do what you can. But if you're able to help write a French translation, (the first since the original Toad-al Drama Island,) please let me know.

PRODUCTION UPDATE!
I'm very behind schedule right now. As far as putting together a cast goes, I have 12 tropes to base characters off of, and currently have 5 characters in mind. Only one of them has an in-depth personality written right now. I also have 1 fan-made character officially cast, with slots for 2 more. The plan was to have a full cast of 15 by the end of April and put together a writing team in May. That way, by the time they start pre-writing in May, and writing the actual season in June-July, they'll already have a cast to work with. But at the rate I'm going, it's not gonna happen very soon, and I might have to push everything back a month. THE SEASON IS STILL HAPPENING! I just felt I had to put that out there, 'cause it feels like whenever I put out a production update for something like this, it means the season is cancelled.
REMINDER FOR APPLICANTS
I'm looking for non-human Mario species (for consistency) with arms and a face. If your character's species doesn't meet those requirements, they won't be cast, unless I like them enough to make an exception. (Such as the Wubba I'm considering casting.)

I've gotten names like Rainbow Toad and Shy Guy. Those won't cut it. I'm looking for actual names. Yes, I did accept Furry Bro. once, but only because applications were extremely low. And if you need inspiration for characters, check out Toad-al Drama Sunshine and Inferno, (I made most of those characters so don't try to copy them) and even the first two Paper Mario games. Whatever gives you ideas. Finally, character names from the past two seasons that kickstarted the OC trend:

So earlier in the MKPC News topic, I announced I would be writing a new reality TV fanfic in the summer, and I've decided that would be an all-new season of Toad-al Drama. I'm not hyping it up this time, 'cause seasons 2 (Odyssey) and 5 (Inferno) were both hyped up to be the best seasons ever and they both failed massively. On the flip side, the season I wasn't sure would work (Sunshine) actually turned out really well. The reason I'm announcing this season a couple months before writing is because I want plenty of time to put together a team of co-writers. There are a few issues from previous seasons that I'm sure more writers could fix.
1. Gameplay
A pattern from season to season is how before the merge, there is really interesting gameplay, and then it starts to slow down a bit after the merge. Then once the semi-finals round comes, there's not really a game to be played since it comes down to a couple challenges. You'd better hope the challenges are really good those last two episodes, or else they're just filler. And then there's Inferno. The awful Toad-al Drama Inferno. The pre-merge was really promising, and there were a ton of villains in the post-merge. Unfortunately, I turned that into nobody wanting to talk to each other, and when they did talk, it was nothing but strategy, meaning it got very stale, and derailed characters like Nick and Violet. This lead to Toad-al Drama Mini: Hectic Holiday, a short-lived spinoff that didn't even have a competition. It didn't even last two episodes before I cancelled it. More creative minds would definitely fix this problem.
2. Challenge Variety
The challenges are a very important part of Toad-al Drama, and a lot of the time, I suck at writing them. A lot of the same challenges are carried over between seasons, and ever since Odyssey, every season's had at least one challenge that's just "spin a wheel and pray." I even used this challenge to eliminate Brittany and Furry Bro. from Sunshine since I didn't know how else to eliminate them. So yeah, a lot more variety would come from having a team.
3. Relationships
This is one I really struggle with, and I don't even know where to begin. I'm just gonna start by saying that I don't write hookups and breakups very well. There are only two couples I can remember. The first is Wendy and Boshi from Odyssey, which might've just been a joke. I don't actually know if I had any plans on developing them as a couple, and they probably just existed to fuel Yoshi and Boshi's rivalry even more after Yoshi and Birdo's breakup. The second is Nick and Shelly from Sunshine and Inferno, and they were made to be a cute couple from the very beginning. I'm never gonna break them up, and that's the problem. Across five seasons, both couples I brought together have stayed together, which gives the false idea that relationships always last. I've written a lot more friendships than couples, such as Daisy and Sticks in Crossover, Min and Lizzy in Sunshine, and Danny and Rocky in Sunshine and Inferno. They had some rocky roads, but always stayed together in the end, which is just completely unrealistic. I think this is something for me to improve on, and I don't necessarily need a writing team to fix this issue.
4. LGBT Representation
Toad-al Drama's only had 3 LGBT characters. The first one was Birdo in the first 3 seasons, and she was just your typical Birdo. Not a whole lot to say about her. The second was Min from Sunshine and Inferno, and I'm not joking, I looked at her, thought about her tough feminist personality, and said, "She's a lesbian." Probably the most homophobic thing I've ever done. I didn't even do anything with it other than use it to create an alliance between her and Flambo in her second season. Speaking of Flambo, he was just a sassy gay stereotype. If Min wasn't me being homophobic, than Flambo definitely was. I've also been scared to write a trans OC, since I'm one of those people who believe that if you were born one gender, you can't be the other unless you've gotten your parts replaced. But considering I've been raised by a guy who once said, "June is Pride Month, and I have pride in my country; my flag only needs three colors," I have no clue where my morals lie. I'd probably eliminate the character so early that they wouldn't really matter, or keep them around long enough for my unpopular ideas to seep into the story. (I feel like looking as conservative stereotypes on Reddit has ruined me.) So having a few LGBT people to keep my straight Christian ass in check and write more accurate LGBT characters would be a big help.

So yeah, if you wanna help write this new Toad-al Drama season, please let me know. I'll set up a Google Doc for all of us to put our thoughts on.
