After watching the entirety of the Mario 3 cartoon, clips of the other Mario cartoons, and clips of Sonic Boom, I asked myself if there were any other video game cartoons out there that are actually good? And that's why I started this series. The first four volumes will be on Donkey Kong Country, Sonic X, Kirby: Right Back At Ya, and SatAM. An hour ago, I watched the first episode of Donkey Kong Country, (Bad Hair Day,) and here's what I have to say about it.
The Characters
I've never been a DK fan, but I already love these characters. This is probably the most personality they're ever gonna get, and I'm perfectly okay with that. Do you want Donkey Kong to have a "Cool, man" attitude? Or Funky Kong with a Jamaican accent? Cranky Kong to sound like Gilbert Gottfried? King K. Rool to be this posh ruler, and not an insane person that his design makes him out to be? I actually don't like that last one, but everything else, you'll find it all here. I watched Mario 3 to do research on the Koopalings, and if you've seen my Kootie-Pie rants, you probably know how well that went. For DK Country, I didn't come for research, and I'm still in love with everyone. (The only thing that bothers me design-wise is that I can't stop looking at the army guy's nipples. I want to stop, but it just pops out like a... I don't know, just don't look at him for too long.)
Story
The first episode was exposition and a parody of Samson from the Bible, so I can't say much. I also know a bit about "Kong for a Day," but not enough to get an opinion. There wasn't an annoying moment in the first episode, though, so I'll give it a pass. I would bring up how trippy the ending was, but I might save that for the next segment.
Animation
Thankfully, this was produced by some French studio instead of DiC, so it looks a lot better than- (flashbacks of Cheatsy-) that. For the 90's the animation looked pretty good. Though I couldn't help but notice that Donkey Kong with a haircut was just his normal model with a texture change. That's right, the tuft of hair on his head is actually his head. But again, this was the 90's, so I'll let it slide.
Conclusion
For the time period it was made in, I couldn't find any problems with it. (Okay, except for the few I mentioned in previous segments, but it's still not that many.) Would I watch it again? Of course. I have the rest of the summer. (But I'll save room for the other three VGC's I have in mind.) Next time, I'll watch and episode and post a review on Sonic X.
Edit: I forgot to mention just how hard the theme song slaps.

Nice idea. I like how you make it detailed.

So I tried watching Sonic X...
I'm not an anime guy, and I just recently became a Sonic guy, so this was a strange experience. I would do the three segments in my last post, but I hardly have anything to say. After watching the first episode, here are my thoughts. First off, the animation is great for it's time period, but that and the theme song are the only good things I can say about it. The show focuses on Sonic landing on Earth after a fight with Eggman, and... oh boy... this is giving me some serious Mario 3 vibes, and not in a good way. Certain Mario 3 episodes took place in the "real world," but it wasn't the focus of the entire series. Also, instead of a bunch of little stories, from what I read on Wikipedia, Sonic X spread the whole story across 78 episodes. I'm not watching the entire show just to know the full story, especially when it involves HUMANS IN SONIC MEDIA! SERIOUSLY, WAS THIS THE INSPIRATION FOR LOADING SCREENS: THE GA- I MEAN SONIC 06? The characters seem fine, though Sonic was the only one put in the spotlight in episode 1. Also, is it just me, or is Rouge strangely... how do I put it... I don't even think she's alive. (But knowing that Rouge is basically a walking innuendo, it's probably a good thing.) I would've watched another video that's been popping up on my YouTube homepage lately, but it's episode 9 in a non-episodic series. (And judging by the thumbnail, which features Cream and Tails at the beach, it probably would've given some strange revelations, if you know what I mean.) Would I watch anymore episodes? Absolutely not. Would I recommend it to others? If you like Loading Screens: The Ga- I mean Sonic 06, then sure. Next time, I'll be covering Kirby: Right Back At Ya, which I have a lot more hope in, mostly because I saw a few Dedede clips.
Edit: So apparently, the reason Rouge looked like Tails Doll was because it wasn't actually Rouge, but rather a robot duplicate... why?
