I'm having issues with grand prix

so i will admit that i am new to this version of mariokart, but i have played other mariokart games, but this one is the best one i have found so far. my only issue is when doing grand prix that the computer players(cpu) get random bursts of speed and pass my up with ease when i get a huge lead away from them. i originally thought they got some item like the mushroom or something but there were no item boxes anywhere near them after a thunderbolt went off. i am just posting this in forums to maybe get some answers of what to do for this if i can, cause i do enjoy playing, but not if it is unfair against me in those occasions.

man the cpus sometimes go flying with speed and they never stay off the center making shroom ridge very easy for them as the vehicles stay on the right or left side not in the center I have played grand prix and Waluigi was way to overpowered, his stats are too high and he is always so far ahead of the pack making it hard to beat him even on easier difficulty's.

@GavGaming don't triple post. Btw the best character in the game is Daisy, not Waluigi, and the CPU characters drive at a speed relative to their start placement, not their stats.
@Radar They probably had an item in their storage. If not, the difficulty of the CPU in Grand Prix in this game is Difficult, so they are in fact slightly faster than the player's speed.

There isn't much rubber-banding in Mario Kart Double Dash & onwards because the harder was way better. It's only the first 3 that had that problem.

because the cpu base speed is based on their difficulty (which is difficult in gp mode) also dont play as bowser unless youre very good at playing with stat glitch lol
