Ok, for those of you who have seen me around this website for awhile, you know I love Paper Mario. And if you read my About section on my profile (by the way, I recommend you go do that, there's some neat stuff I have on there)on my top 10 Mario games, TTYD is #1. So, it must be pretty good. Good Lord, where do I begin with this game? I guess the story.
Story
Peach goes to the town of Rogueport, because they need gas for their boat. My question is, where were they going in the first place? The game never really explains this. She goes to this definitely not shady shop owner, who gives her an old map. Of course, she sends it to Mario, because Mario will definitely know what the heck this map means, and tells him to come to Rogueport. Short little detail, but the opening is the exact same as the opening to Paper Mario 64. So, adventure ho! Mario arrives in Rogueport, and finds that a chunky boi is threatening a goomba girl for info about these things called Crystal Stars. Mario gets involved, whoops chunky boi's thick booty, which, we find out his name is Lord Crump, 2nd-in-command of this group called the X-Nauts. Goomba girl, whose name is Goombella, sticks around with Mario, and Toadsworth finds Mario and tells him Peach is missing, big surprise. Mario then finds out that the map is a treasure map which has the location of the Crystal Stars, which will open the Thousand-Year Door and get whatever the treasure is. Neat (maybe). I won't explain the entire story, because you should play the game yourself or watch a Let's Play of it on YouTube.
The Battle System
Ah yes, the piece de resistance of this game. Liked Paper Mario 64's battle system? Well, now it's even better! Using the new crowd system, you can interact with the crowd or the crowd wants to try and you know.. kill you if you don't do good in battle. And there's also these things called Stylish moves, where, if you press the A button at the right time, Mario or his partners does a sick trick, and the crowd gives you more star power to fill up your star meter.
The Worlds
There's some really unique ideas for worlds in this game. Chapter 1, grassland where you fight dragon. Chapter 2, Pikmin. Chapter 3, you fight in a wrestling ring with the nickname "The Great Gonzales" and find corruption- wait what- Chapter 4, You arrive in spooky town, get your body stolen, people think you're the bad guy, you get your body back. Chapter 5, you get shipwrecked on an island. Chapter 6, you solve mysteries on a train. Chapter 7, YOU GET LAUNCHED INTO SPACE and blow up the X-Naut's lair on the moon. Here's my ranking of the chapters:
7. Chapter 2
6. Chapter 1
5. Chapter 4
4. Chapter 5
3. Chapter 7
2. Chapter 3
1. Chapter 6
Other Things
You can buy this thing called a W emblem from another definitely not shady shop owner, and if you equip it, it changes Mario's clothes into Wario's clothes. If you find the hidden L emblem in chapter 6, and you equip it, it changes Mario's clothes into Luigi's clothes. And if you equip both, Mario's clothes turn into Waluigi's clothes. I love these little touches.
There's also sidequests which can range from bad to good. You can unlock an optional partner by doing one of the sidequests.
There's also The Pit of 100 Trials, where you have to do 100 battles, back to back, no healing. You can get some pretty OP badges from it like Fire Drive, Zap Tap, and Lucky Day. It can get pretty hard, but it's my favorite optional thing in the game.
Conclusion
I really have only touched the tip of the iceberg about this game. Easily, one of, if not, the best Nintendo game. You can look up more about this game on YouTube. This game will always remain as one of my favorite video games.
So, what do you think of this game? Let me know. I like doing these reviews and I will do more of them in the future.

Most of my opinions of this game are "it's good". The only problem I have with the game is how much backtracking there is in LITERALLY EVERY CHAPTER, besides maybe 3. What doesn't help is that 85% of the rooms the game are just really long hallways.
It's just not fun.
Also, it's not my favorite Paper Mario game. That honor goes to Color Splash, for personal reasons.
Rankings of chapters:
7. 4
6. 2
5. 1
4. 7
3. 3
