How come when you restart it always just resets the entire grand prix?

I was playing mushroom cup when I accidentally failed a race and I decided to restart the track, but it just goes back to the first race.

That’s how it is in the official Mario Kart games.

Yeah, obviously, that's a main mechanic.

I mean in SMK and MKSC you could retry the same race, but only a few times. And you would lose a time from ranking low

It would make the game too easy if it wasn't the case. Plus that happens in most official MK games. But I agree, it can get pretty annoying (who didn't, at least once, tried to go for a [number] star run in MKWii and messed up everything at the last race ? I mean... Yeah that's pretty annoying, but it adds challenge, and balance
