Do you think Mario Kart should have a story mode in the next game?
Nope. Reason? Name 1 racing game with a good story right now
crash team racing
Good, now, how many active players does that game have?
I don't know but there are about 50 players
Yeah, the game is dead. That's my whole point. Now, name 1 modern Mario Kart game that is dead.(By modern, I mean DS-8DX). Tour, technically, sure, but the others are alive and well thanks to CTGP & stuff. Point is, why would they break the formula that is clearly working? Story mode didn't save Tokyo Olympics from being the last one we got. It didn't save Brawl, or Ultimate. The rest of the game saved Ultimate, but the story was easily the worst part of that game. It's not an RPG, it's not an exploration game, it's go-karting, it doesn't need a story.
It definitely did save Brawl, the rest of that game kinda sucked imo
Yeah, it saved Brawl so hard that fans had to make a legendary mod rebalancing the entire game to get people to play it, that was so good that Nintendo actually had to step in and take it down, and led to several other mods following the same naming scheme. Definitely "saved" Brawl.
TLDR, PM saved Brawl. Nothing in Brawl saved Brawl. It was all PM.
Anyway, my point was that no one is buying a racing game for the story, so they don't need to make one.
It could be a 'dumb" history where Bowser overtakes Raimbow Road, and you build your own emgine like in that canceled MK game, they could even reintroduce bossfights!,
The rest would be the notmal tracks and some missions!

What is there to take over on Rainbow Road? All of them except for 1 are literally just roads in space. Not even Monolith Soft could make that story work.

WiiU Rainbow Road is a space station, and Bowser could get up to some devious stuff with that in his posession, like sening rockets to Earth and stuff, you know, causing chaos, but the definition of Rainbow Road has been pretty cut and dry historically. Mario Circuit & Bowser's Castle haven't changed much either, I don't think those tracks have much of a chance for drastic changes like that, not officially anyway.

I don't know dude, Rainbow Road has had a staple design for these last 30 years, same for Mario Circuit & Bowser's Castle. I think you'd get a little world building at best, like in MK8 & DD, but that's about it. Mario spinoffs don't really do story. At least, not good ones. (Looking at you, Super Mario Party). Aces is the only exception.

there is a surprising big handful of things you can do with it staple design, Saturn rings, the Moon, even based of waterfalls, Good Egg galaxy, a space castle, stars, as long there is Rainbow, it can be done.
There is even a custom track for Wii/8DX that fuses Bowser Castle and Rainbow Road flawlessy, all it is needed is creativity.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree. I'm just saying that there's a good reason why the last four games have been adding the most elaborate, unique feeling tracks, like Coconut Mall, Waluigi Pinball, Electrodrome, Music Park etc., yet Rainbow Road, Bowser Castle & Mario Circuit have stayed basically the same design wise since N64. They aren't gonna change that any time soon, it's too iconic.
Also Mario Spinoffs have terrible stories. I'd rather have no story than a bad one.

"Content is content" I wouldn't be too sure about that. Mario Party Top 100 had 100 minigames, and was still unanimously hated. Switch Sports had "content", hated. Golf Super Rush? Hated. Battle League(awesome game)? Hated. I don't think a proper story would've saved any of those games. A polished turd is still a turd, after all.(Well, Battle League was sabotaged by the fake Strikers fans, but again, an argument for another time)

Well, Wii's is too(we can see the atmospheric re-entry flames when falling off it after all. Point is, GCN Rainbow Road is still just a Road in the sky.
And there's nothing to discuss about a Mario Kart story mode other than how bad or good it would be, because we don't know what it'd entail. Also Tour is 9, but that's an argument for another day. Anyway, agree to disagree. Have a good one

This is a serious mischaracterization of Wario as a character...
I'm glad I wrapped that argument up with Joshy, because now it's time to go to town on this.
I will be back in an hour with a 500 word essay on why Wario would never do that.
Edit: I forgot I have to go somewhere, actually. But I will return around 9PM(my time).

If the next Mario Kart game had bosses on racing tracks or in a battle arena it would be good
