I feel like having only 24 character slots can be limiting so here are characters that should be default to allow for 32 and I might even add more ideas:
DK jr
Baby Mario
Baby Luigi
R.O.B.
Villager
Inkling
Wiggler
Honey queen
I also don’t like the current character layout so here’s a fix to that:
Row one: Mario, peach, toad, yoshi, bowser, dk, wario, Koopa
Row two: Luigi, daisy, toadette, birdo, bowser jr, diddy kong,waluigi, dry bones

I would be okay with having 28 characters, I Guess. We could add Pauline, King Bob-Omb, Baby Mario and Kamek... After all even if hé didn't appear in any game conteary to the others, he was about to do, and that's a good character idea I rhinkt

I feel like 28 would be a bad amount because each row is a row of 8 and I would precede 32 because it could help with multi cups, espiccially when combined with my battle mode ideas

We're on a SMK based game (well at first it was it) and we have 3x more characters tha' SMK. We don't need more en if that would be nice
