Hey, guys. I recently read a post by someone reviewing Mario Kart: Double Dash, and I wanted in on the fun. However, I didn't want to just pick the most popular topics, so I decided to go out there. Way out there. Each post on this topic will be my review on an episode of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3, but first, I'm going to review the series in general.
*
In 1988, we got Super Mario Bros 3, quite possibly one of the best 2D Mario titles ever made. Two years later, we got a cartoon spinoff, and it was, um, how do I put it? Awful. While Super Show had 50-something episodes, SMB3 only had 26. SMB3 also had fewer worlds, so every episode felt kind of the same.
Problem #1: The animation. The DiC shows, per usual, looked cruddy and rushed, and this was no exception. Not only did it look bad, but designs are inconsistent, and there are tons of mistakes, like this one:
https://www.mariowiki.com/images/thumb/e/e5/NinjaKoopa6.jpg/200px-NinjaKoopa6.jpg
How could you mess up that badly? Other examples include voice mix-ups, Larry's face glitching out a ton, and Wendy's shoes disappearing and reappearing randomly FOUR TIMES in one episode. And speaking of her and Larry...
Problem #2: The Koopalings. I just love these little cuties in the games, but in the show, it just feels like there's something wrong with them. First off, the names. In the games, they're named Lemmy, Larry, Wendy, Iggy, Ludwig, Roy, and Morton. In the show, (not in the same order,) we have... Bully? Kooky? Cheatsy? What kind of a name is Cheatsy? We also have Big-Mouth, Kootie-Pie, (not Cutie-Pie, Kootie Pie,) and Hip and Hop. They're personalities are also messed up. You know the fun wacko known as Iggy, who has a tendency to ride chain chomps and smack his butt at Mario? Say goodbye to him. This time, Iggy's just your average Koopa. Who's the insane one now? LUDWIG! Ludwig of all people! And the deisgns. This is Larry in the games:

Let's see what he looks like in the show:

That's... not what I had in mind. They also managed to make Wendy look better in the show than in the games, which I just find weird.
I had a third problem, but forgot what it was. Anyway, this general overview of the show should hopefully convince you not to watch it. If you do watch it, trust me. You'll regret it. See you soon for what's definitely not a rip-off of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

But the thing is, it is old, and characters change and evolve as time goes on. Just saying.

At least we can all agree that the next show is “the best one”.

Hey, thanks for taking inspiration from my review of Double Dash. Can't wait to see your reviews of this awful spinoff cartoon. My next review will be coming out soon.

You're welcome. I'm planning on writing the first episode tomorrow, but I might have to rewatch it because of my foggy memory. And by the way, can't wait for your next reviw.

I rewatched episode one about three minutes ago, so I'm writing this review as I go.

We start off with chaos at Kastle Koopa, with Bully throwing stuff at Big-Mouth, Cheatsy and Kootie-Pie pulling Kooky's hair, and Hip and Hop jumping on a chair. If this stuff is normal, I'm glad I'm not a Koopa. Bowser then orders a family meeting, and shows off the next victim of their capturing, Prince Hugo the Huge, king of Giant Land. We then get the very first example of Big-Mouth earning his name: "That's Prince Hugo the Huge! The new ruler of Giant Land! They say, he's the biggest, toughest, bbbravest prince ever, even for a giant! He's a giant!" After that, we see a new side of Bully, the chicken. He suggests that Big-Mouth or even Kootie-Pie captures him. Dude, I don't think she was built for this kinda stuff, but I wouldn't mind Big-Mouth. You know what confuses me, though? He doesn't suggest Hop, the BOSS of Giant Land. Why not pick somebody who knows what he's doing? Koopa then orders Bully, Big-Mouth, Cheatsy, and Kooky to step forward, but the others step back instead. They are then turned- I'm kinda dragging this aren't I? This is supposed to be a review, not a recap, so I should probably stop making this seem like a recap.
Prince Hugo informs the Bros that he's about to get captured, the parrot shows doubt in the two, (I wouldn't trust two average plumbers either if I didn't know about power-ups,) and they try to prevent the capturing, while angering the sun in the process. They escape with a really bad disguise, 'cause cartoon enemies are stupid, and they arrive at Kastle Koopa. Luigi, Toad, and Peach get locked into the parrot's cage, and Prince Hugo turns into a poodle. Mario tries to ride the parrot in order to save his friends, but he just complains about how his entire life is that cage. Whatever your name is, you're not losing your house. It's just a- wait. Actually, his cage is his home, so I guess it is kinda like losing his house. Sorry, parrot. Moving on. Peach somehow tricks Bowser into- again with the recap, MysteryMan. Keep it short and simple.
Mario turns into a ninja, beats the Koopas, and rescues Prince Hugo. It ends with the parrot chasing Mario because his cage is ruined. Yeah, that's it. Nothing else. It's part funny, part annoying.

What are my final thoughts? I rewatched the next episode before this one, and that one was 100% more interesting. Here, there's not much going on. I mean, there is a lot going on, but nothing very memorable. The only part I would've remembered if I didn't rewatch episode 1 was the awful song and Red Luigi. In other words, this episode was just boring. Next time, I'll be going over Reptiles in the Rose Garden, where we find out that Kootie-Pie is a royal pain.
P.S. How did I go through that whole thing without mentioning TMNT even once?

I am really torn between this next episode. It's very irritating, but it's also one of the most entertaining episodes. Without further ado, here's Reptiles in the Rose Garden.

Today is Kootie-Pie's birthday, and we see her throwing stuff out the window, showing how extremely mature she is. She even yeets her freaking cake out the window. Since King Koopa is a doormat, and will do anything to keep her daughter from whining, he agrees to give her... America? This won't end well. And while we're at it...
Reason I don't like Kootie-Pie #1: Look at her. She's so stinkin' adorable. But do one thing to upset her, and she's all, "I HATE IT!" or, "I WANT IT!" The worst part is that she's acting like this at SIXTEEN.
Meanwhile at the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and Co. are expressing how happy they are to not have to worry about the Koopas, but how do they know it's Kootie-Pie's birthday? Anyway, along comes the airship, complete with bullet bills. Luckily, they miss, but the four then get bitten by the tiniest chain chomps ever. They're taken to the dungeon, and the Koopas continue their journey to conquer America, which they make it look so easy. All they do is warp the White House into the ocean, and that's it. Kootie-Pie then sets some new laws and...
Reason I don't like Kootie-Pie #2: She doesn't know how to rule a country. She calls the new America meaner and crueler, but her laws are the dumbest ever:
1. "Every kid in America mush give me their toys."
2. "Any handsome boy who does not me for a date will be turned into a rock." (We then see a couple boys turned to stone, as well as a girl for some reason.)
3. "All the gold in Fort Knox will be melted down to make a lifetime supply of charm bracelets."
Stupid, right? Anyway, back to Mario and Co. They notice President H.W. Bush in the White House, and all he ever does is talk on the phone. Peach then distracts the Sledge, Boomerang, Fire, etc. Bros in order to escape the dungeon. Over at Kastle Koopa, King Koopa lets the others know that Kootie-Pie finally found a gift that makes her happy. What's Big-Mouth's response? "Give that bbbbrat a country and she finally stops nagging!" He wouldn't be so annoying if he didn't roll his B's all the time. Mario arrives at the White House to rescue the First Lady and the President- HOW IS HE STILL ON THE PHONE? He then turns the White House into FLUDD's Hover Nozzle. Don't believe me? Find out for yourself.
LOGIC ERROR ALERT! LOGIC ERROR ALERT! Luigi's worried because Kootie-Pie will also be taking over Paris, London, and Brooklyn. MUST I REMIND YOU WHERE BROOKLYN IS? She already has it. It's too late.
The Mario Bros then try to sneak past some Sledge Bros, so they where horrible disguises. In most cartoons, they get away with this kind of thing, but this time, it didn't work. Id feel guilty if I said that I'm glad it was realistic, so I guess I'm guilty. They manage to escape, and we cut to Kootie-Pie sitting back on a lawn chair getting her claws done, instead of, oh I don't know, making plans for her next conquerings? The White House then crushes her and the hammer bro.
If annimation mistakes could kill, then this scene would be the Hunger Games:
Kootie-Pie's sunglasses and magazine disappear.
Her shows reappear out of nowhere.
The blue starry part on the flag is just a white square.
SHE SURVIVED GETTING CRUSHED BY THE GOSH-DARN WHITE HOUSE!
Kootie-Pie is warped back home, and she blames it on Bowser for some reason. I don't really know why, but he finally gives Kootie-Pie "the present she deserves," and piles her with a bunch of chores.
*
Final thoughts? I don't know how it is that Kootie-Pie is my least favorite Koopaling in this show, and she gets away with starring in one of my favorite episodes. Sure, it could be better, but a lot more happens compared to the giant ninja one. This also aired twice in some countries. Next time, we'll get our first look at Hip and Hop, and Desert Land. Up next is Mind Your Mummy Mommy, Mario.

Well, cartoons were still developing, with the first solids ones only being Tom and Jerry and Scooby - Doo, so its common to see tiny mistakes in cartoons from the 90s and 80s.

I know mistakes are common in this show. It's just that you can't get past a single episode without seeing at least 5 or 6.
BTW, I'm not sure I'll be able to do every episode individually. Ill try my hardest, but don't be surprised if I stop in the middle of this series. Also, I'm planning on reviewing the SMW show after this.

It's time for episode 3: Mind Your Mummy, Mommy, Mario. (Say that three times fast.)
The episode starts with Hip and Hop finding the Lost Temple of Mushroomakhen, or however you spell it, and they are tied for my 2nd and 3rd least-favorite Koopalings. They have no personality, their names are bland, and they're your stereotypical twins who finish each other's sentences. And the only reason I can tell them apart is because Hop has glasses. These aren't huge issues, and I know it's a twin thing, but what's ironic is that in the games, these are my faves.
Anyway, they take the mummy case of King Mushroomak- Mushroomat- Mushroomkha- uhm, the late king, and escape the temple with it. His mother, who I'm not even gonna try to find the name of, gets angry, and ruins everything in Desert Land to find out who took her son. She then thinks Mario is her son, and takes him to the temple. After that, nothing really interesting happens. We see more of Hip and Hop running away with the mummy case, more confusion between Mario and the mummy queen, and some random guy giving Mario's friends a map to the temple. Actually, that last one's important, but we're six minutes in, and NOTHING'S HAPPENING. They go to the castle, try to escape Bowser, take the case from the twins, yada-yada-yada, and tell the mummy queen that there was a mistake. That's it. Everything in this episode is forgettable, from the characters, to the setting, to the plot itself. I would've made it more of a recap, but this had even less action than episode one, and I honestly wish I only had to do the more interesting ones.
But now that I have that out of the way, let's see what episode 4 is.
The Beauty of Kootie
Wait a sec... I don't like what I'm in for...
*insert siren noise* KOOTIE-PIE ALERT! *insert siren noise*

It's time for episode 4: The Beauty of Kootie
Stuff you should know before I begin
I watched the episode last week, hoping to write the review then. Since I forgot, I'll have to take what I can remember about it and review that today.
The story in 10 sentences or less
The king of Desert Land is taking a bath, when suddenly, the water gets polluted with oil. Like any sane person, he calls the Mario Bros to help him. We then cut to Koopa Castle, and learn some confusing stuff that I'll get to later. The Mario Bros come to the castle for some reason, so Cheatsy transforms Kootie-Pie into a human, probably as a distraction or to lure the Bros into their trap. She introduces herself with the definitely not suspicious name of Lady Fettuccini Alfredo. Mario falls in love with her, but Luigi notices that she still has her tail. Geez, I know tails aren't very common on humans, but you didn't notice that she still has the same bow, shoes, necklace, bracelets, everything? Anyways, the Mario Bros get locked in the dungeon, and after somehow finding a way out, Mario decides to get back at Kootie-Pie by turning Luigi into Casanova Koopa. Then- I'm done with this. It's confusing as heck. I'm reading the story on mariowiki.com as I'm writing this, and I still have no idea what's going on. It was hard doing episode three, but I'd rather review a forgettable episode than one I can't comprehend. In other words, you're better off just watching the episode for yourself.
Final thoughts
Maybe I just have a horrible memory, but I doubt it's that. This episode was probably the most confusing episode in the series. Another downfall is that it stars Kootie-Pie. (Read episode 2 if you wanna know why I despise her. Reason two is more of a joke than reason 1.) It also has 23 mistakes according to mariowiki.com. If somebody could explain all of the confuzzling stuff this episode, I would be very glad.
If there is a next time, I will be reviewing episode 5: Princess Toadstool for President. Hopefully it won't be as confusing... Wait... A presidential election in a kingdom?
