I think Mario Kart 7 is a great game. It has great and creative tracks, some of which I think are the most underrated in Mario Kart History (Wario Shipyard is a really good example). Wiggler is really cool, and a lot of the new karts are really cool too.
But...I don't think it's the best game in the series, despite what some of you might say.

First, the new characters. While Wiggler's amazing, and Lakitu is pretty cool, Honey Queen and Metal Mario are honestly pretty lame. I know I'm going to anger a lot of people with this, but I really don't like Metal Mario. He had a cool theme in Super Mario 64, but he's a clone. He's Mario with a silver texture and a different voice. I just really don't get why people like him more than Wiggler. And Honey Queen? She shouldn't be here. Who thought it was a good idea to put a character who appeared in a total of 2 games before hand over Waluigi, a fan favorite character? Because whoever came up with that idea needs to be fired. To make things even worse, they have Waluigi Pinball in the game, but no Waluigi! How does that make any sense!?

Second, this is a bit nitpicky, but the tricks in the game are kinda boring. Almost all of them are practically the same thing: the first trick is them putting their hand in the air, then the second is them doing a similar thing to the camera. MKWii and MK8 both had much more exciting and distinct tricks for every character.

Lastly, the battle mode...kinda sucks. Coin Battle is somehow worse than in MKWii, you can't customize a lot of things about the battles themselves, and the arena selection...could be better. Big Donut is far better than the N64 version, Wuhu Town is pretty cool, GBA BC1 is pretty fun, and I think Honeybee Hive and Palm Shore are just...okay. But, from my experience, Sherbet Rink isn't very fun, especially compared to all the others.

And if you say "it's a portable game, of course there's less stuff than console games" or something along those lines, I'll point to MKDS. It's also a portable, but it has a more content than MK7, despite being on inferior hardware. It has a mission mode, a VS mode, a customizable emblem, and I personally think it has better tracks than MK7. I'm not saying every track in DS is better, but DS's best tracks (Waluigi Pinball, Airship Fortress, Luigi's Mansion) are better than Mk7's best.

In summary, I like MK7, but I wouldn't call it the best in the series. It has its flaws, and it's honestly kinda underwhelming, especially compared to MKDS, the last portable Mario Kart.

What are your thoughts on Mario Kart 7?

Mario Kart 7 has a magnifique Rainbow Road, but Metal Mario clearly sucks, same for Honey Queen, seriously, this kind of character has nothing to do here, plus it was on Wii, when MK7 is on 3DS.

This is such a great game but has some flaws.

I agree that the tricks are lacklustre, but also that it's a very minor nitpick that doesn't really subtract from the game. I wish they tried a little harder with this to give the characters more personality.

However, I have a rebuttal for the MKDS point. While yes, MKDS is a more content-filled game, it's also a simpler game. No tricks (even though that didn't take up much processing power), glider or underwater, as well as less ghosts for time trials. From game mechanics alone, MKDS had more room to create extra content then MK7.

Also, having Waluigi Pinball but no Waluigi isn't that big of a crime anymore, since MK8 had 2 F-Zero tracks but Captain Falcon is still unplayable.

The game's shortcomings are definitely there, but since there are major issues with all of the other games it manages to stand on top despite it.

I feel like they put all the personality into Wiggler. Weird, but Wiggler's still cool.

Sure, MK7 has more content in terms of mechanics, but I don't think that gliding, tricking, going underwater, and more ghosts take up enough room to make so they can't add a simple VS mode. Also, DS is on inferior hardware, so it can't hold as much. Yet, it still has so much more diverse stuff. Also 7 doesn't allow you to change basic battle mode stuff like the timer, and I'd think that would be a normal thing that would be necessary.

I feel like Captain Falcon not being in is a little more justified. He's not a Mario character. Sure, there's Link, Villager, and Isabelle, but they look a little more natural on the vehicles. Could you imagine what the Cap'n would look like on an ATV? Plus, Captain's legs would be longer than Link's, so he would look very weird and out-of-character on some karts. Waluigi, on the other hand, is a well-known Mario character, a fan favorite, and has been in every prior Mario Kart game since Double Dash. Why would it make sense to get rid of him, and not Daisy, who has been in the exact same number of Mario Karts, and almost the exact same number of games? Even after all that, the worst part is, repeating from above, Honey Queen, a side character who appeared in a total of 2 games before hand and was wanted in Mario Kart by exactly 0 people, got in instead of Waluigi, a fan-favorite who has appeared in almost every game before hand.

Yeah, those tricks are annoying. Raising your arms is *not* a trick, and neither is looking at the camera. I will admit that there are a few good ones out there such as Koopa or Metal doing a stunt off the steering wheel, but most characters are just boring. I first noticed that with Rosa and I pretty much started to see that everywhere soon after.
Battle to me is okay, but could be better. The way I see it, both the nitros and retros had two great selections each, and the third is rather lackluster in comparison (For me those would be N64 Big Donut and Honeybee Hive).
The character roster does include some staples, but once you hit Metal Mario, you start to wonder how they picked the roster. Metal Mario is just a clone, and the rest are rather random, except for maybe Shy Guy, who did have a playable appearance in MKDS's download play mode. Lakitu's inclusion never made sense to me, since he already has a job as the referee (Yes, I'm aware the two have different colored shells). Lakitu as a playable character honestly made more sense in Tour over 7/8, and that's simply because the referee isn't really there in Tour outside of the loading screen for challenges.
Tracks... I honestly didn't find the nitros as appealing as the retros. Sure, there are some good ones such as Shy Guy Bazaar and Piranha Plant Slide, but I preferred the retros more than the nitros. I will say that 7 easily has the best retro track selection in the franchise (I'm not counting Tour. That retro selection keeps expanding to really make an opinion there). I also never saw the appeal for about half the nitros, so that doesn't help.

I love Mario Kart 7 so much. I feel like too many people hate on it. Sure, the roster is odd, but that makes it awesome. Honey Queen.. weird choice, but she's connected to Galaxy, so it's an A in my book. The nitro tracks are great with great tracks such as, Shy Guy Bazaar, Wuhu Loop, Music Park, Maka Wuhu, and MK7's Rainbow Road, which is the best Rainbow Road in the series. Also, why do so many people like Piranha Plant Slide? Honestly, I hate it. I'd rather play any other track in the game than it. The retro track selection is the best in the series. Yeah, that's right, I said it, because it's true. Coconut Mall, Waluigi Pinball, Maple Treeway, Kalimari Desert, DK Pass, and Daisy Cruiser. The online mode is the best in the series, as well. The kart customization is absolutely amazing. Your kart can be a train, a boat, and a cactus, because why not? The glider and underwater features revolutionized Mario Kart forever, and opened the door for so much more creativity for the tracks.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Hey, you're lying!

You can't drive a train, boat and cactus at the same time!
...I feel ripped off...

Also, Galaxy was already represented with Rosalina. They didn't need to add Honey Queen. And they shouldn't have. She appeared in 2 games before MK7, and has no right being in the game over Waluigi, who has his signature track in MK7, but not his person. Just because Honey Queen's from Galaxy doesn't make this sin any less bad. As I just said, Honey Queen isn't Galaxy's first representation. It's Rosalina. Liking Honey Queen in any capacity is illogical to me.

Also also, you didn't list Wario Shipyard in the best tracks? Shame on you.

Well yeah, I think Mario Kart 7 is one of the best in the saga, although I think they had to add more characters because I feel like they only put the most popular ones and two extras that never came out again, and I think the remakes of mkwii they could be better. I love everything else, the nitro circuits are amazing.
