Mario Kart is a series of racing and motorized combat video games produced by Nintendo, adapted from the series of platform games Super Mario. Begun in 1992 by Super Mario Kart on Super Nintendo, the series still exists more than twenty-five years later with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe released on April 28, 2017 on Nintendo Switch. It thus has a total of eight games released on the main Nintendo consoles, and three “special” titles developed on an arcade machine.

The most successful episode in store is Mario Kart Wii (the sixth installment), with 37.24 million copies sold worldwide. The second is Mario Kart DS (the fifth installment) with 23.6 million games sold.
