this little thingimagig topic is about an upcoming sunsoft game for consoles (i currently only saw nintendo upload a video about it).


The game in question is......


Gimmick! 2!


Here's the trailer of it on nintendo of america's youtube channel:





But what is Gimmick! 2? Well it's an official sequel to an originally Japan and Scandinavia only game Gimmick!



Developer Q&A:

Q: Who do you play as?
A: the playable character is a green Kirby-like (fun fact: Gimmick! Came out before Kirby's Dream Land!) called Yumetarō.

Q: Is the original developer of the first game involved in this one too?
A: the developer of the first game, Tomomi Sakai, was involved with the first game, they, for some odd reason, are not involved with the sequel unfortunately, which ultimately led the developers to throw in a little apology note on twitter for his absence.

Q: who was the original composer of the first one then the sequel?
A: the composer of the first game is Masashi Kageyama with the expansion chip: the Sunsoft 5B, meanwhile, the music in the second game are remixes (and possibly even original songs) of the first game's themes, these remixes are made by David Wise.

Little fun fact: there's 3 more gimmick stuff than just the 2 games i covered here, Gimmick! Exact★Mix, an arcade remake of the first game for EXA Arcadia machines, with remixes like Gimmick! 2, & Gimmick! Special Edition, a slightly enhanced port on modern consoles from the original, featuring a trademark Speedrun Mode, where you beat the game as fast as possible, as well as many other features like a Rewind mode incase you make a little mistake.

Yumetarou and Kirby would be the best of pals, huge win for all Gimmick! Enjoyers out there today. It's getting really exciting to see a bunch of older IPs being revived for the current era, I hope everyones favorite obscure retro title gets some love in whatever new phase of nintendo we're at right now.
