Well It appears to be some sort of handgun, so of course it slides, you definitely meant it literally and not as a another meaning for allowed-!!1!1!1!. Whenever a round is fired some of the gas that is created from the burning of gunpowder is used to move the slide back. This is done in order to get another round out of the magazine and in to the chamber, where it can be struck by the firing pin. The slide is the top part on most pistols, which must be cocked in order to chamber a round. Many pistols have a slide hold back feature where after the last round is fired the slide is held back. After you reload a new magazine into the gun you can press the slide release button which chambers a round, making the gun ready to fire.
