If you wanted to know, the results came about by me adding the numbers of what places you guys voted the suggestions.
I think the reason why Mario is probably the most popular Nintendo franchise is because it is so Big!
Mario has so many different games ranging in classic 2D side-scrollers to 3D sport spinoffs and RPGs.

Kirby has pinballs and cooking games, and fun, cute little spinoffs like that, but it has no RPGs (I have a personal hope that a Kirby RPG will come someday). Nonetheless, THAT it has spinoffs means that it is big!
