The CPU's do not take shortcuts, only the player can.

Update: The Cpu's can now take short cuts only on difficult and higher difficulties; the cpus only take the advanced shortcuts on impossible difficulty.

Yeah these short cuts are way too broken, they need huge nerfs, you don't even need mushrooms for the ultra shortcuts that's how bad it is
