If unleashed has poor performance on original hardware there is literally zero chance that recompilation could ever work on 3ds without very significantly optimizing the game to the point where it'd be unrecognizable, not to mention the fact that the 3ds has very different architecture to modern pcs so the entire way the recomp works would have to be redone
I know there is a fangame that's basically a remake similar to the wii version in the works though



Anyway I have spent the past two weeks playing nothing but unleashed recompiled lol.
I also played the wii ver a bit over a year ago, but i won't talk on that because it is the opposite of fresh in my mind
I don't know if this is recency bias or the fact i've been stuck with generations for a long time or what, but i find the daytime gameplay actually a lot more fun than generations, it is way faster and the level design particularly in bonus acts is very devious, but super fun to learn, even despite the much worse air control this game has. It's incredibly pretty also, and I have this on like, very low graphics settings (laptop is old and meh). I didn't hate the werehog levels tbh, I wouldn't replay them much for fun though, but they don't feel like they disrupt the game during a playthrough (with the exception of a couple stages being awful at the level you're usually at by then. Arid Sands). Boss fights for a sonic game are honestly not bad, even if it feels like all the day ones are the same thing. Although the final boss is horrible. I vividly remember it also sucked in the wii version, but it didn't make you redo the egg dragoon if you game over on dark gaia iirc. At the very least it is super cool. If I can make a recommendation, please use a mod and remove the medal requirements, because I have literally played every daytime stage casually and I only have like have the sun medals needed to get into jungle joyride day act 1, the requirements are actually absurd. Overall though very worth playing even if the actual playthrough can be difficult, the post game stuff is awesome, and sonic really does feel really good and really fast in this.

I don't mean to go at you for no reason, but I recall back then that everyone was calling this a renaissance, the BCP was coming out around that time which excited a lot of people, Wonder was praised for being much more creative than the other recent 2d games, two of the most beloved mario RPGs were getting remade, and Brothership even if it wasn't developed by nintendo was still mostly well received for bringing back what many regard as one of the best mario spinoff series, and this is just with mario, Nintendo does have other IPs and work on multiple different projects within those, and they all take time. Besides, the last few years they've likely been busy with Switch 2 early titles, which they would obviously want to show off alongside the console as they'd sell eachother. Such as MK9 which they certainly haven't forgotten about and are just holding off on showing. I'm willing to bet one of the reasons the BCP exists (other than obviously preserving Tour) is to have at least some mario kart content during the wait for the switch 2. Btw battle league was a low budget title from a much more obscure spinoff series and was not very well received. Case in point know that nintendo has still been releasing quite a lot and pls just find other games to play, or some other hobby, the time will go quickly if you aren't constantly anticipating 🙏

The first mk game I ever played (and one of the first games i played in general) was 64 on an emulator, and i vividly remember being on Moo Moo Farm and spamming all of a banana bunch right before I crossed the finish line on lap 3 and for some reason I thought it was the funniest thing ever

Thats kinda why the game exists though right? To sell the other better mario kart games to people who might be interested. Like someone loves their mario kart game on their phone and gets a switch and then goes down the pipeline of becoming a proper Nintendo fan

very much enjoyed the challenges this year, the difficulty curve felt good, nothing too bs-y, and they did a great job highlighting some of the stuff that got added to the game this year

The final one looks way better. and the other is from a prototype so it would likely be unfinished/a placeholder. They just revised the logo a bit because they thought it'd be better it's not a big deal, this happens when you're working on anything

Honestly I'm cool with still getting more movies cause i think there is a fair bit more to do. As for boost era games though, they all have such uneventful/unimportant stories to where i really think Unleashed's is the only one that could really be adapted

Well first I'd actively recommend not playing the 1993 sega/mega cd version, it's buggy, is in 4:3 and has much worse cutscenes. Play the 2011 version instead, preferably on the decompilation with Miracle Edition.

Anyway I think it's one of the stranger classic games, I prefer it to 1 and perhaps 2 but 3k and Mania are absolutely better. Noticeably it's really short if you just run through the game, which I tend to do since that's how I like playing sonic games. Tbh I think that's good. And even then, there's very little disruption to the game itself, all the boss fights being horribly designed (as usual) and particularly easy this time around means they don't get in the way, unlike sonic 2 which I actively don't want to finish once I've beaten wing fortress.

The level design in this game is really odd. It doesn't feel correct at all. I mean look at Stardust Speedway, those acts took me ages to learn in time attack and they're really quick. It doesn't really follow the classic sonic design of high paths being faster, there's kinda just a lot of paths. everywhere. In a level like Quartz Quadrant sticking to the bottom is precisely what you want to do. So yeah, this game is definitely not optimized for time attack, and even outside of time attack it kinda doesn't make sense. I did still enjoy trying to minimize times on these levels, though I'd appreciate if time attack mode didn't include the boss acts.... and it was way less flawed....... like iirc it doesn't let you retry bc you have 0 lives. I think ME might fix this, and I can't comment on Origins because it's origins and i have sonic origins on my computer already

but that's besides the point. I don't find the prospect of getting all the generators particularly enjoyable, and while this special stage is one of my favourites (and the 6th one hates functioning on vanilla decomp for some reason) it's still a chaos emerald-adjacent quest and those aren't my favourite parts of these games.

So:
Short and sweet, easy to just play, but doesn't really have a lot of what i look for. 3/5 and for context in my opinion:

Also I should mention this has the best music of all the CLASSIC classics
and also that majin sonic is the funniest shit and you aren't making me find it scary ever
